Abacus – Erotic Illusions

Paris house and techno label Synchrophone Recordings offshoot Phonogramme continues to dig into the dustiest corners of the epic archive of esteemed Toronto veteran Abacus, offering up reissues of killer cuts from the mid-to-late 1990s. ‘Erotic Illusions’, which was also released as the ‘Abacus’ EP, hails from 1995 and here gets its first pressing since, is a cut presented in three contrasting forms. On the A-side you’ll find the superior ‘Instrullusions’ take, a gorgeously deep, picturesque and percussively loose-limbed house workout blessed with a fantastic female spoken word vocal urging us to get busy in the dance. Over on the B-side, the more stripped-back, bassline-driven ‘Poetic Illusions’ take, which features selected spoken word snippets to keep things moving, is accompanied by the groove-based and equally fantastic ‘Decadent Dub’.
