RAWAX revives the seminal self-titled debut from Acid Jesus here. It’s the 1993 collaboration between Roman Flugel and Jorn Elling Wuttke that helped define the trajectory of German techno. Born from Frankfurt’s then rapidly evolving scene, the album channels the city’s club sound of the day and the transatlantic dialogue with Detroit and the UK. Nods to Underground Resistance, the Belleville Three, Sven Vath and Andrew Weatherall shape its sharp, streamlined sound and hint at the aesthetic that would later drive Playhouse, Klang and Ongaku. Some 30 years later, Acid Jesus still stands as a foundational statement from two artists who became pillars of European electronic music.
