American Steel – Hustlin’ Time

Hustlin’ Time’ is a real jewel from New York’s early 80s boogie underground. Originally pressed in 1983 on the cult Silver Screen Records, this one-off 12? from American Steel has become a collector’s treasure and a DJ secret weapon and it’s easy to hear why. Anchored by a strutting bassline, tight drums and soul-drenched vocals, it epitomises boogie at its peak while fusing funk, disco and electro into sounds full of flair. This release offers four versions – the full vocal, a concise edit a stripped-back instrumental, and a Dub mix by Aldo Marin (as S.U.R.E. Shot), whose early production adds a raw edge while staying firmly in the club.
