Human Rebellion – Unmatrixed

Basking in the promise of a future mech dystopia, Warehouse Manifesto are London’s latest sonic answer to the imaginings of franchises like Neon Genesis or Gundam, specialising in none other than the genre’s neatest sonic accompaniment, electro. Here they welcome producer Human Rebellion for their thrilling ‘Unmatrixed’ EP, which captures the impending sense of futility that arises at even the most staunch promises of such a so-called human revolution. As is evoked by nominal cybernetics like ‘The Darkness Is Coming’ or ‘Modern Slavery’, not even the most utopian humanist ideology could ever rival the pessimism of the machine nor the arrival of a new automatic dark age; we might naively think we are ‘Unmatrixed’, yet we still dance, reflexively, to the desirous pull of dystopian electro, whether post-ironically or post-post-ironically. Political musings aside, this is also simply a really cool EP, with ‘Hypersonic Weapons’ and ‘Telepathic Groove’ especially getting across this producer’s special aptiude for transitional FX and layered gluings.
