DJ Eden – Navigator

Berlin’s Matthias – head of Superluminal Recordings and longtime mover behind the city’s Delicate Bloom parties – steps out as DJ Eden for ‘Navigator’, a four-track EP of analogue trance mutations empyreally channelled via A Colourful Storm. From the opener ‘Trance Navigator’, it’s clear this isn’t solely a case of retroism but a modern double-take on a classic form: soaring melodies, yes, but framed with restraint and an border-broaching curiosity only a post-noughts ear could possess. And despite the name, the record unfurls more as a surprising collection of techy minimalia over and above the expected gush of cascading supersaw emotes, with ‘Tantra Dub’ closing on a rather gruff underground swarming-forth.
