Fantastic Man – Genesis

Under the Fantastic Man alias, Mic Newman has released a lot of very good house music, much of it colourful, deep and vibrant. He tends to shift around styles depending on inspiration, applying his trademark sound to everything from classic deep house and vibid nu-disco, to acid and early morning sleaziness. Here, he uses that blueprint to doff a cap to classic 90s progressive house. This is particularly evident on the gorgeous and rushing ‘Genesis (Anthem Mix)’, where waves of loved-up and ultra-positive synth melodies rub shoulders with dreamy pads and heady vocal samples atop a sequenced acid bassline and smopoth progressive house drums. His breakbeat-powered, TB-303-flecked original mix follows, while on side B you’ll find the more mind-altering (but still picturesque) ‘anthem dub’ and the fizzing, trance-tempo ‘Lekker Tekker Mix’.
