Flexx – Love Theme From Flexxy-Ball (You’ll Never Change No More)

Some Italo cuts don’t survive the often decades-long preservative efforts required to maintain fidelity, but the same cannot be said for ‘Love Theme From Flexxy Ball’, produced by low-key Italo production funk-lorists Mikki Chieregato and Roberto Turatti. With Fred Ventura, the voice behind Flexxy-Ball, delivering smooth, melodic vocals over crisp synth lines and propulsive rhythms crafted at Manlio Cangelli’s Love Theme studio, this would become one of the singles Hole would use to help launch the said singer’s career, not to mention those of Joe Yellow, Den Harrow, and Styloo too. Both the A and B here radiate the charm and energy of early 80s Italo, with crisp hats, eighth-bouncing Juno-60 basses, and huge LinnDrum toms, all separated like shell-to-shell egg whites in a ultra-well-imaged mix.
