Tranquil Elephantizer ‎– Space Program E.P.

Operative since the mid 1990s with a subtly evolving sound rooted in deep dancefloor psychedelia, London/San Francisco collective Tranquil Elephantizer have recently become active in the studio again after a few years off. This fine four-tracker is the result. They begin with the dubby, tactile and warming deep house wonder that is ‘SFO’, a ten-minute fusion of heady horns, jazzy deep house beats, smooth bass and classic house stabs. They reach for New Jersey style organ licks on the break propelled garage-house jazz of ‘Bamba Cascoigne’, where more fine horn arrangements catch the ear, before offering up the mazy acid bass, sunny piano stabs and live drums of ‘Worker’. Best of all though is ‘Transamerica’, a deep, string-laden and TB-303 powered slab of bittersweet acid melancholia.
