Released first in 1991 on Ministry of Sound, this legendary Larry Levan set delivered house tracks with rare, mind-bending twists. Now some of them make it to this new wax. On the A-side, ‘Happy Dreams’ fuses Rare Earth’s 1975 ‘Happy Song’ with the sinister bass of Eurythmics’ ‘Sweet Dreams’ to make a hypnotic mash-up that bridges 70s soul and 80s pop for the dance floor. Crafted by Victor Rosado with painstaking tape edits, it’s a mesmerising DJ tool that captures the thrill of discovering something entirely new before Shazam or email existed. The B-side re-edits Grace Jones’ ‘Slave to the Rhythm into orchestral, percussion-driven bliss. Vital stuff.
