Volpe – Sense of Identity EP

Volpe is Argentinian-born and Berlin-based, so he brings musical tropes from both regions to his work as he returns to Mitsubasa following a tune on the label’s VA series. It’s a deep dive into his dubby, percussive sound, but one with great dancefloor dynamics. ‘Inner Wisdom’ layers sweeping chords and deep pads with an urgent but supple rhythm that harks back to the soul days of early Detroit sophistication. ‘Playful Spirit’ is a little more heads down and gritty, but remains inviting and warm as smudged chords soften the edges. ‘Impermanence is a deft, jazzy dancer with an uplifting energy and ‘Duality’ shuts down with some potent techno funk.
