Dexter – Size Counts

Not to be confused with the Dutch electro hero, Dexter was the alias of UK tech-house producer Matt Royall during the early-to-mid 2000s. German label Repeat has now reissued Dexter’s 2004 release, the Size Counts EP.

On the A-side, ‘Break It Down’ delivers a deep, druggy, and chuggy track that is pleasingly off-kilter. Featuring delay-laden spoken word snippets and echoing hand percussion hits, the track rises above a driving bassline and hypnotic, locked-in drums.

The pace and intensity increase on the flipside with ‘Once Again’, a West Coast tech-house workout reminiscent of Hipp-E & Halo. Rich in trippy female vocal snippets, ghostly chords, and dubby bass, this track is a standout for fans of tech-house and deep, atmospheric productions.
